Morris Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Supports January Blood Donor Month
Bronx, NY based nursing home Morris Park recognizes the importance of establishing Blood Donation Month and helps spread awareness to assist those in need
Bronx, NY (January 2014) Millions of people donate blood to help others in times of emergency for many different reasons. Some donate for a relative or a friend in need, others just for the satisfaction of helping another. The month of January, designated as Blood Donor Month, is particularly important for donations due to the frequency of winter weather accidents and injuries.
Morris Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center encourages members of the community to participate in blood drives this month. The Red Cross estimates 41,000 blood donations are needed every day and while that goal may not be reached, there are enough people eligible to donate to fill it. The Red Cross is facing a severe blood shortage, a dangerous situation to be at when someone in the US is in need of blood every two seconds.
When deciding to give blood, one should follow these simple steps for the best donation experience. First, when giving blood, it is possible to become dizzy from a drop in blood sugar. Drink plenty of water and fruit juice the night and morning before a donation and avoid dehydrating caffeinated beverages. Having food in your stomach also helps decrease light headedness, so it is advised to eat three hours before donation. During your donation, remember to relax. Bring a calming playlist or a book, something that only requires one hand to use. Finally, after your donation, be sure to have a meal high in protein to help your body replenish your blood supply. Remember to steer clear of alcoholic beverages for at least 8 hours post donation.

Morris Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Commemorates Human Rights Day 2013
Bronx Based Nursing Home Morris Park Declares the Rights of Their Residents to be of the Highest Importance
Bronx, NY (December 2013) Morris Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, a premier skilled nursing facility located in Bronx, New York, upholds the spirit of Human Rights Day on December 10th. This day of recognition commemorates the United Nations' adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Human rights and the rights of their residents in particular, are extremely important to the Morris Park family in all aspects of their operation. The administration believes that care facilities cannot operate based on the bottom line, instead basing their care on the golden rule: do unto others as you would have them do unto you. To that effect, all residents are treated as individuals, with different likes and tastes and are given the personalized care that they need to live happily and comfortably.
Morris Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center ensures that their entire care team is fully trained and properly prepared to treat their residents as individuals; our rigorous hiring process emphasizes this fact. Families and loved ones are guaranteed that applicants are given individual attention tailored specifically to their needs. Morris Park Nursing Home Celebrates as Thanksgiving and Hanukkah Arrive for a Unique Holiday Experience
Bronx Based Nursing Home Morris Park to Celebrate the Arrival of Thanksgiving and Hanukkah with Food, Fun and Family
Bronx, NY (November 2013) Fall is home to an array of cherished holidays, with families and friends coming together for food, family and memory building. This year, two of these beloved holidays fall on the same day, opening the door for a once in a lifetime holiday experience that will be engraved in families’ memories for years.
Thanksgiving, celebrated traditionally in the United States on the fourth Thursday in November, was declared a national holiday by President Lincoln in 1863. With its own culture of food and togetherness, people have come together to celebrate this tradition since the pilgrims first sat with the Native Americans back in 1621. Thanksgiving aims to celebrate the end of the harvest and give thanks and appreciation for another bountiful year.
Thanksgiving will share the stage this year with the Jewish celebration of Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights. Older than Thanksgiving, Hanukkah lasts for eight days and celebrates the successful rebellion of the Maccabees against Antiochus IV Epiphanes, after which the candles of the temple burned for eight days on a supply meant only for one. Like Thanksgiving, Hanukkah has its own cultural and traditional foods, music and festivities.
“This is going to be a once in a lifetime event and we hope that families and friends all over take advantage of the celebrations we will be hosting here at Morris Park. It is also the perfect opportunity for loved ones to spend the holiday with our residents, who are also very much looking forward to the festivities and programs we have planned that day for them to enjoy with their families,” said Estela Rono, Assistant Administrator at Morris Park Nursing Home.
To acknowledge this historic event, Morris Park Nursing Home is hosting programs and events that reflect the festive nature of these holidays. Traditional games, music, and stories will be accompanied by a meal set to include delicious combinations of cultural dishes from both holidays. Family and friends are more than welcome to join in on the celebration, and to add to the spirit of community that comes with the arrival of the holidays.
